I find it helps to have a superstition around holding a particular direction on the pad, tapping a button, holding a button, rubbing the screen etc. as a lot of catching the legends is down to pure luck (after you wear them down and paralyse or sleep them). That way when you run out of balls you can blame yourself instead of the cruelty of the random number generator.

I caught Victini yesterday morning on 1 health (he endured a hit) and had maybe 5 or 6 balls left at the end of it. On my original Black run it took 2 balls when he had more than 1/3 health and was paralyzed... I hate using the word "random" now that youths have stolen it and corrupted it, but in this case it fits.

Victini doesn't die when you're trying to catch it, ridiculous. You can get the exp and leave the room, walk back in and its there again.

A great way to EV train for HP!

I..uh.. what? It's like they are trying to force Victini down your throat then.

Dusk Balls at night will give you a 4x bonus - just make sure it's on 1HP after Endure, put it to sleep and then Dusk Balls. I got it on my 2nd one (which was probably a bit luckier than average)

Victini is the "Victory Pokemon" - it does not recognise a loss even when defeat water-guns it in the face. At best it will accept a stalemate - ie you capture it and it joins the winning team.

Oh, that's a great idea, thanks :) I think it's currently night-time in my game (is the game's time based on real-world time?) so that'll make it so much more convenient.

It works off the internal clock of the DS, so whatever time is on the DS is the time in the game.

Bah, still haven't bought this game yet, too broke. Playing platinum atm though. GO me...

Is the catch rate the basic % chance to successfully catch, or is there some fancy formula involved in calculating the % chance based on the catch rate?

Pretty much. Your base chance to catch anything from full health is (catch rate) / 3*255. Current 'mon health will increase that up to (catch rate)/255 at theoretical 0HP, and the type of ball you use and any status problems give multiplication bonuses.

Actually, I think it was reclassified as only 3.5x rather than 4x...

Either way, 3.5x is still a nice modifier

And, hurrah, I managed to catch Victini with 2 or 3 Great Balls (the Ultra failed :( ) - I never realised how fast/strong it is, he's tearing through just about anything.

Burgh (once I get through all the trainers in the gym) is gonna be such a handy battle :D

According to that site you all hate, if you go to www.Pokemon.com/uk and open the Global Link link you can play a minigame to befriend an Eevee evolution that will download when the Global Link finally opens. Obviously, I'd prefer Gamefreak concentrated all their resources on plugging radiation leaks, finding survivors and rebuilding destroyed towns but once they have all that sorted, Global Link is priority #2!

I'm not sure how involved the video game industry is in the relief effort...

Still, the Eevee thing sounds fun.

I'm gonna try and get a Flareon :D

Just got jolteon saved outta it

Supposedly the Eeveelutions wil have their Dreamworld abilities, so I'm going to aim for a Magic Bounce Espeon. I hate breakout though :(

Yay, managed to get Flareon :D Kinda wish guts wasn't its ability, but oh well.

Well, I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt :)
Took a Jolteon. Can't be arsed playing it again, the mouse controls were driving me mad...

If they have Dreamworld abilities and anyone gets a female.... presumably you can then breed an Eevee with it's DreamWorld ability which would then translate into an Eeveelution with it's corresponding Dreamworld ability?

    From Bulbapedia:

"Female Pokémon with Hidden Abilities can pass on the Hidden Ability to their offspring. Ditto count as male for this purpose. For example, if a female Darmanitan with Zen Mode bred with a male Simisage, the offspring Darumaka may have Inner Focus instead of the usual Hustle and would evolve into a Darmanitan with Zen Mode, instead of Sheer Force. However, it should be noted that there is also a chance of not passing on the ability."

    Good news :D

Sorry to burst anyones bubble, but all the Japanese Dream World Ability special Pokemon (Kanto Starters, Eeveelutions, Croagunk etc) are all something like 99% male and non ability-breed-down-able. Which kinda sucks. Good news is the natures and IVs are not set, so you could save before entering the Entralink, catch it check IVs and nature and soft reset until you are happy.

    *Pop!* :)

I got a Leafeon in the end but the game was driving me crazy and I had no desire to play it again, so I just saved it.

I'm going to aim for Vaporeon in the mini-game or Leafeon. I'll see how long I can stand playing it.

Edit: Gaah, I hate this game, bring back Pokémon Labyrinth...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,066 ✭✭✭elekid

If you get an Espeon, I'll trade you for my Leafeon when the time comes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,729 ✭✭✭✭CianRyan

    I can't get passed level 3...
I'm just going to trade of my Shiny Eevee from last years VGCs and go with that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 241 ✭✭SamIAmNot

how many levels are there anyway? I'm the same and can't get past level 3

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,066 ✭✭✭elekid

    4 excrutiating levels

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 866 ✭✭✭Buzzthebatgirl

    -of pure pain...!

In other news I've filled all my storage space pre-Elite Four and going to find out if there is truth in the rumour that one can defer catching one's version dragon until after the story mode

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,729 ✭✭✭✭CianRyan

That's a lot of effort seeing as it can't be used in the years VGCs.

    4 LEVELS?!
****... I thought they'd be clever and do five to match the Gen's.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,183 ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

It's the most infuriating game of breakout ever

Got a flareon but decided not to save it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 830 ✭✭✭Robby91

Took me long enough to get it finished, and I got a Jolteon. I was hoping for something beyond the Gen I stuff but I'll be damned if I'm playing that again...

I didn't think it was too bad. I got to the end three times before settling on a Leafeon
