Burning waste oil

    Hi,

Can anyone please tell me how i can convert my oil burner (which is located in the shed outside), so that i can burn waste oil instead? It is for an old empty house that i am trying to keep damp free. No one living there at the moment, and conting me a small fortune to keep it heated to any level. Bad enough having to heat my own house in this day and age!!

thanks in advance for any advice.

    jo

It's rather easy to do, but just to let you know that that it could be seen as illegal under the Air Pollution and Waste Management Acts.
This is due to the high level of semi-synthetic oils in most waste engine oil, whose combustion at relatively low temperatures leads to the formation of dioxins and furans, which are well known environmental pollutants.

AFAIK no you can't but I would ask the Mod to move this to the heating and plumbing section where the people in the know hangout.

there is a 5000 euro fine for burning waste oil without a licence from the EPA. all the posters looking for information on burning wast oil seem to have short memories ,two years ago all the pork and ham in the country had to be taken off the shelves because the feed supplier had used oil that had been contaminated with waste oil to dry the feed .(thats still rumbling through the courts) so the chances of you getting a licence are slim also the costs of complying with the licence would out weigh the savings made.
