    Hi,

My father in law's 2001 B5.5 2.0l petrol (it's the 8v AZM engine) has the engine light coming intermittently. The main symptom is that it's hard to start from cold. It's worse in the summer than winter. Otherwise it appears to be driving fine bar the engine management light being on most of the time.

I did a scan with VAG-COM today and got the following error codes:

    Component and/or Version: 2.0l/2V SIMOS32 00AT4002
    Software Coding: 00063
    Work Shop Code: WSC 00028
    Additional Info: WVWZZZ3BZ2P017435 VWZ7Z0A3626906
    3 Faults Found:
16555 - Fuel Trim: System Too Lean: Bank 1
    P0171 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
16885 - Vehicle Speed Sensor: Implausible Signal
    P0501 - 35-00 - -
16500 - Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor (G62): Implausible Signal
    P0116 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

I did a scan a few months back and the first two codes were there. However, the temp sensor seems to be a new one.

When we first started getting the starting problems, we left it with a local mechanic and he found holes in the air pipe running from the airflow meter. He replaced the pipe, but it didn't solve the problem. All the other vacuum pipes look fine.

I was thinking that it may be the airflow meter itself, but it's an expensive part to get just on the off chance.

I did a run tonight and captured the MAF and Lambda data on VAG-Scope. Can anyone shed any light on the problem?

    Thanks,

    Ken.
