Ski Club GB

I meant to post this last year as a sort of fyi about the British Ski Club. I was in Mayrhofen last March and found myself in a billy no-mates situation in terms of skiing partners. Now, a lot of competent skiers who find themselves in a mixed group end up taking lessons that they don't really need just to have someone to ski with at their own level. I did this myself in St. Anton one year, and after 3 days of follow the leader, I was going nuts.
Anyway, a good alternative is to join the Ski Club of GB. You can ski for free with them for one day, to see if their level/personalities suit you. Their reps(ski club leaders) usually have a set time 5-7pm every evening in one of the local pubs, so that you can drop by and see what he/she is doing the next day. They try to have an intermediate day then an advanced/fast day, but it really depends on what the members want.
The one real plus I found, was that there's nearly always one member in a group who has been going to that resort for the last 20 years or is spending the entire season there! They know every single nook and cranny of the mountain, including most importantly every last stash of powder and all the safe lines offpiste. That kind of knowledge is priceless and well worth the membership fee, imo.
The 34 resorts that they have reps in are http://www.skiclub.co.uk/skiclub/skiresorts/represorts.aspx

I saw a couple of their groups going round the mountains when I was in Kitz and some people in the hotel I was staying in say they joined up with them for a day and it was well worth it.

Being a not-for-profit organisation, they won't be spending the day trying to sell you stuff, just a bunch of people who really like to ski.

It is an excellent service and the Ski Club UK Leaders (Total Rebrand this season) are generally people who have done a couple of seasons in that resort or have been going there for donkey years.

Each Leader will have a detailed list of notes from the other leadears that service the resorts and they pool their info. Unfortunatley not every resort has one and some resorts have banned them or wont allow them to opperate (Cough Cough St Anton) Cough

They are all in Blue jackets now so they are not hard to miss, Membership of the SKiClub UK is well worth it and some of the discounts are super.

Sadly their new website is PANTS!
