What is the minimum milage or distance coverered that a person should have in order to attempt one of these?

Not sure oisin, but I saw on the URI website that the 24hr race is being held in Belfast again in July and there will also be a 12hour option. That could be interesting for someone getting into this kind of thing.

IIRC they have a relay entry too this year, teams of 4 each person does 3x2hr stints. It would be a pity to see the main even 'diluted', but I like the idea of trying something like this sometime :)

That sounds like a challenge. Maybe we could get a couple of boards teams for this?

YOuwould have no trouble with it Oisin at the mileage you are doing comfortably at the moment. Meno would be good for it too. FFS look at his mielage so far. ....doddle :D
If I can manage what I did with no training and Im only a beginner , what kind of mileage would ye do this time.
I intend to do much better with training this year - if the track isnt too congested with all these other blokes on it

What distance did you get in the 24 hour race htt? How did you find it? Have you got a race report?

There is no rational approach to doing a 24 hour race. Just decide you want to, and off you go! Now obviously, the more training you have done the better. But its a different world from Marathons, 50km, even 100km. You don't know how you'll get on until you try it. So just go for it. Hot to Trot is dead right.

And please please please drop the miles crap. We (Ireland, Europe, the world except UK & USA) adopted the metric system years ago. Doing 24 hours on a track is much easier if you think metric (400m x 5 = 2km etc). I actually have no idea what my PB is in miles, its such an irrelevance. I've never heard them referenced in a 24 hour race outside the UK.

Interesting then that URI website has the 100 mile split time (from the Espoo 24H race last weekend) for Valerie Glavin and quote it as a womens best time :D

I am really interested in seeing the race report. If you, or anyone else finds it, please post a link to it.

Just seen Krustys link above. Thanks

Just out of interest of course. 137k is what I am capable of running in a month, not a day.
