Headlight Adjustment

When you are adjusting your headlights, how much should the beam drop over a set distance?

For example, I pull up bumper to wall and make a mark where the beam hits the wall. Then I pull back 3 metres to check the level. Should the level be hitting the mark on the wall, or should it have dropped? If it should have dropped, how far should it have dropped?

After being flashed a few times and complained to once, I got the lights checked by the garage. They reckon that the level is fine, but I'm still being flashed by people. Therefore I want to check it again.

There is no electronic leveller (the button inside that adjust 0,1,2,3).

The vehicle is a 1998 Toyota Hilux Surf SSRX (originally Japanese passenger 3rd gen, now commercialised).

    Thanks.

    D.

You probably already did this, but check the tyre pressures.
Also are you carrying heavy load that weigh the back down?

Here's an ehow if that helps?

    Thanks Biko.

Tyre pressures are fine (I tend to watch this carefully), and I haven't been carrying any heavy loads for a while (except myself!).
