John Barry dies

The man who gave the world the greatest movie music mofit as we know it as died at 77. The famous twangy Bond theme is credited to Monty Norman but it was Barry who created the arrangement. Bizarrely the authorship of a few notes ended up being "decided" to no-ones satisfaction in the London High Court defamation case. But there seems little doubt the 007 theme as heard in the films is Barrys creation.

Barry won 4 Oscars and a Grammy.

Barry was behind possibly my favourite movie themes: Midnight Cowboy:

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

My personal favourites, despite being one of the most hated bond movies, and of course this Bruce Lee "classic". RIP John Barry. :(

    RIP

Pipped at the post for OHMSS by Phony!
Loved that soundtrack and still think it's easily one of the best Bond movies.

RIP, its sad that a lot of these amazing composers are getting to their twilight years, can you imagine what it'll be like when John Williams dies? that man scored my childhood

    John William's music....

    *stares into sky*

    ...will never die.............*sniff*

RIP to the creater of one of the most catchy themes and the spawner of other "spy" themes which you hear twangs of in everything. That sort of covert mystery tone as somebody sneaks about the place taking photos of documents in drawers :pac:

A man who left his musical scores in every major film of last 50 odd years including Born Free, 007 theme, Zulu ,Walkabout , Midnight Cowboy ,Indecent proposal and many more including this one .

The Good Times Are Coming (The Monte Walsh Theme )

    RIP

Aw wow, loved him. Walkabout and The Ipcress File are sublime. Was supposed to have been quite the lothario - apparently Michael Caine came to stay at Barry's place but Barry was entertaining some female guests and Caine did not see him for four days... :pac:

Dunno if anyone listens to Filmic, a monthly show on radionowhere.org but available on podcast. The host is Ley Bricknell, the music is from movies and she plays a Barry track every show. She will be heart-broken - always praising him and some months its just small snippets from Bond movies or so, but always great music.
