I was offered Bushmills

Not really much of a point to this thread but I was out in a nightclub there a few weeks ago and I asked for a shot of Jameson. The bar-woman said they had none and offered me some Bushmills instead. I'm not gonna lie I was fairly ****ed at this stage. Being the smart fella I am I replied "Bushmills, that's a Protestant whiskey?" Clearly she wasn't a fan of the show at all and just stared blankly back at me, so I just got a JD instead.

Must say I walked away with an awful happy grin on my face. Have been waiting a few years to use that line. Unfortunately I wasn't as lucky as McNulty was that night. While he got the ride I managed to break a friends window, which means a couple of hundred euros to fix it.

Yea so here ends probably the most pointless thread I'll ever start on Boards haha

Happened to me before the Christmas. Exact same story but when I gave the "but that's Protestant whiskey" line, she looked at me and said "ohh right is it" not having a clue how to respond :)

God bless the bold Jimmy :D

If you can get drunk and have a shag.

Getting drunk and using a Jimmy McNulty line and causing some property damage is a good second

On Paddys day I usually drink whiskey Jameson being my favourite. However this year I got a cheap bottle of Bushmills and every Donegal person I met kept telling me that I was a prod for drinking it.

The Dublin Jameson's were actually a Protestant family. Although Bushmill's town is in Northern Ireland, is very Unionist and is festooned with Union Jacks. I've heard talk that Bushmill's distillery used to have sectarian hiring policies, but never seen any evidence of this.

Both brands are now owned by multinationals. Jameson's by Pernod Ricard based in France. Bushmills by Diageo, based in London but with strong Dublin presence.

Powers were a Dublin Catholic distilling family, and Powers used to be far and away the most popular whiskey in Ireland.

To confuse matter further, Jameson is now made in Midleton, Cork, along with Powers, Paddy, Midleton and other brands.

Personally, I'll drink all of them. Preferably the aged versions!
