Was looking at a kersene burner today the only thing i can find on the burner to identify it is RBL GX5 i might need to get a replacement burner as there is a interminttent fault with the sequence sometimes the air fan doesnt kick in and i need to manually reset and then it does the correct sequence .

Anybody know what i would replace it with the boiler is a grant or firebird cant find the markings on it either.

the burner you are looking for is a riello RDB 3.2

your money would be better spent on replacing the whole boiler with a new high efficiency model, a burner will set you back between €300 and €350, and for another few bob you would have a new machine with 2 years warranty plus a grant of €200 that you can avail of.

you will find an installer at these links

Can do the install myself i am a plumber just finished my apprenticeship , just found the document for the burner its a riello g5x thats in it at the moment .
I have experience with oil burners but just wasnt too sure with this one so said id ask .
For anyone with more experience i will describe what happened.

Heating didnt come on sat morn so 1st thing was check the oil level in tank ,
oil level was within 6 inches of end of tank and its an old tank and connection isnt freely visible as they built a shed and a wall in the way afterwards.

So just in case it the oil below the connection we barely topped it up with a 20 litre drum of kerosene , barely enough to make a mark in the 1000ltr tank but would get us through till a delivery comes mon morn.

So so now after bleeding the line to be sure , plenty of kersoene coming out . The heating will come on but after random lenghts of time it needs a manual reset , when i do this manual reset at first i can hear the electrodes firing but for some reason the air fan doesnt kick in so
the sequence is messed up and no oil comes out the nozzle if i do a second reset the air fan kicks in as a normal part of the sequence and burner fires and will run for some time without needing a reset .

Circulating pump is fine , the stat is fine , just the burner acting up for the first time ever.
Have a fill of oil in the morning so if its a oil pressure thing that will sort it but if its not i need to sort it pretty quick .

Should also mention they arent looking for heating control upgrades etc so that probably scuppers grant

your oil pump is sticking, try taking it off and see when you turn the armature and get a grating as you turn it.

oil pump grating seems most likely
i just spent half hour next to the boiler , and during that time the flame cut out twice accompanied by a buzzing noise with a light grating , however it freed itself 2 seconds later and reignited .

Whats the best course of action here priced a new burner at 270 vat inc

or is it worth getting parts ? and hope nothing else goes wrong?

well an rbl oil pump will set ya back bout €90 - €100 so for the extra few bob you've a new burner, with some spares left over from old burner.

thanks for all the help , just took off pump to check it and its not turning freely get jammed and then frees up , tried penetrating bearings with wd40 freed it up a small bit but not enough , will be picking up a RDB 3.2 tommorow i think . :)

Any idea if the rdb will need a pressure adjustment or anything or should it be good to go as such?

if you haven got a flue gas analyzer or pump pressure gauge best to leave well enough, give your boiler a good cleaning before you install new burner, like strip out baffles and give it a good hoovering out.

    hope it works out.

maybe its your first set to becoming an oil service and installation 'oftec' engineer.
