Qtn What would cause cold water tap to run hot water?

House in Kerry - when leaving house - valve closed - water system drained to safeguard during frosty weather
System opened & refilled
Upstairs cold water taps in sinks & bath slow flow and water warm/hot from cold tap??

You most likely have an open heating system and the hot water has flowed up the expansion pipe into the attic and made cold tank water hot.

This use to be a commen problem in the days of slack when fires would be lit all night, I only see it occasionally now.

Does this sound possible to you?

Backfill both hot and cold with mains water at taps and check that the expansion pipe hasn't dropped into the cold water tank.

How warm is the water coming out of the cold taps?

Do you have an electric immersion heater? If the thermostat fails on these the cylinder will "boil" over into the cold water storage tank in the attic. This will cause luke warm water to come from the cold taps.
