    Hi...

I've my driving test in 2 days' time and I'm pretty happy with how things are looking...

But, I've now discovered that I've nobody with a full licence to drive down with me!

I imagine it would look more than a bit funny to drive down to the test centre with only myself in the car.

I was thinking of using an excuse something along the lines of that I had to drop my 'chaperone' (for want of a better word) off somewhere en route.

Or if I just recruited anyone, just to have another body in the car when I turn up at the test centre??? Do they check out the person you arrive with to see if they have a full licence?

Would I be failed automatically or anything for turning up on my own??? Would I be reported? I'm raging now, cos everything was going so well, and now I think that I could be f**ked because of this!!!

Speaking from personal experience it doesn't matter if you have anyone with you or not.
When I did my test, about 7 years ago, I didn't have anyone with me and the instructor didn't mention it or ask about it. Things might have changed since then though.

FYI, I was on my second provisional license.

7 years and the rules have changed an awful lot... I'm on my 3rd Learner's Permit now.

    Thanks for the reply, tho!

My instructor never mentioned it at all, and nobody else has either, but still... I'm just worried about it now! Suppose it's a good thing that this is the only aspect of the test I am worried about!!!!!!

It makes no difference. Yet anyway, that might change in the future. But whether there's someone with you on the drive to the test centre or not makes no difference at the moment.

It makes no difference. The test begins when you are called from the waiting room. Not when you park the car.

You could park it up the night before, that's what I did.

It doesn't matter. My dad went with me to my test, but then he went away walking (we live close to the test centre), so it probably appeared to the tester as if I drove there alone, but he's not in the least bit concerned.

Try and find someone if you can though - it might be just me, but breaking the law before the test even starts would be a bad omen :o

Best of luck with it :)

I was in the same situation, what I did was to arrange for a pretest with my instructor before the test. I drove down to the test centre with someone who didn't have a licence. Met the instructor, did the pretest, then he came into the test centre with me.
The test may not start until your called, but if a tester saw someone coming in unaccompanied would it stick in their mind?

The examiners are not the gardai, they wont get involved.

Cheers for all the replies, people. Think I've recruited a friend of mine to come with. They don't have a full licence, but it'll be another head in the car and it'll look a bit better!

Had my pretests earlier today....... and I couldn't believe how nervy I got the first time. Absolute bag of nerves, screwed everything up (stuff that I had perfected!!!) and would have failed the test had that been it.

Second time around, flew it... Calmed down a lot (breathed in and out slowly and deeply; that worked absolute WONDERS!), took my time and stopped worrying so much.

Fingers crossed I can repeat the latter tomorrow morning!!!

    All them nerves over nothing!!!:P

Driving test got cancelled at the last minute; tester was sick!!!

Rescheduled for Wednesday 9th Feb, so hopefully I can convince the mother-parent or someone to come with me this time! haha.

Plus I can cram a few more lessons and pre-tests in!!!:)

Was looking for this thread to see how you got on! Pity about the test being cancelled, but you have the right attitude! I hope you pass :)

Shame about the cancellation. I'd imagine you'd be fine with no one anyway. I know most of my mates went alone.

There was one though, who did his 1st test in Enniskillen about 3 years ago or so. He drove over with his mother to the test place then had his test, he ended up failing it but tried finiding his mother, she had walked over to the shops.

He couldn't be bothered waiting for her to come back so he drove out after her on his own. The tester reported him for driving with no full licence passenger next to him and he got points / fine or something like that.

Not sure if he got pulled over by the cops first or if they just took the guys word on it. I just remember him telling me about it and thought he had some crappy luck.

He ended up passing the test in Belfast a few months later.

    Tomorrow is D-Day...

"When he gets to heaven, to St. Peter he will tell, 'One more soldier reporting, sir. I've served my time in hell.'"

Not as dramatic as that, but you get the idea!:o
