mortgage interest relief

    Hi,
    I would appreciate some advice on this matter if anyone can help.

    I have being receiving mortgage interest relief on an apartment which was my primary residence from 2004 up until October 2007 at which point I moved to a new primary residence and maintained ownership of the apartment to date. In 2007 I did not move over the mortgage interest relief to my new residence.

    I remember reading at the time that the relief should only be applied for on one property and usually this is the primary property. So I never ended up moving the relief to my new property.

    Really I should have changed over - especially since my new mortgage was bigger and I got married in later 2008.

    What are the ramifications of this?
    Should I inform revenue now?
    Is there a way to reclaim the difference of the tax relief?
    Should I just starting claiming on my current redidence?

    Would appreciate any thoughts.

    Contact the Revenue and have a chat- it's up to the individual inspector on how much flexibility he gives you.

    Thanks for reply. I'm not sure how to interpret the "flexibility" you mention.
    I mean, could I incur the wrath of revenue or can I explain my case openly? I'm nervous even at the thought of talking to an inspector.
