Could this be an implantation bleed?

Hi, I met a guy and slept with him about six days after my period and then on day 8 and 9. On two occasions we had sex without a condom but he didn't ejaculate inside me. I do know that this doesn't mean I couldn't get pregnant but for some reason all sense has left me lately.

Anyway my period is due on Friday but today I went to the bathroom and there was a gush of red blood and now there is some brownish discharge coming out for the last few hours. Now my period often starts like this but it is unusual for me to be so early although it has happened occasionally over the years.

If I continue bleeding I am assuming that as long as I get a negative test towards the end of the week that I am ok but if not Im screwed basically.

I have read up about implantation bleeds and most sites seem to be saying thats its brown spotting so maybe I am overreacting.

I feel guilty posting this here as I know there are so many people who want children and can't conceive, but I really don't want a baby now and not sure I ever do. Im worried sick.

Hi the best thing to do is juts get the test and do it asap, I had an implantation bleed and it was enough for me to think it was the start of my period, it lasted for a day... so when it stopped I knew there was something up. I now have a 1 and a half year old :)
But your situation is entirely different, esp if you do not want to be pregnant. Good luck whatever happens and the sooner you find out the better so don't put it off. :)

Thanks for the reply. My period is due for nearly a week so its far too soon to tell. I just wish I could put it out of my head until Friday.

Go to the Chemists tomo and get the test and do it, the sooner you know the sooner you can come to terms with it if you are, and then decide what it the best thing for YOU to do.
Everyone's body is different, so no matter how anyone else's experience on here might make you think you are or aren't pregnant, you won't know for sure til you get that test.
Sending lots of hugs your way. :)

I have tests already but it says on the packet I have to wait until at least four days before my period is due so its too early, I would probably just get false negatives. Thank you.

The bleeding has stopped now. :(

You could take a test now, but wait until the morning and test with the first urine of the day. Any HCG (the hormone that detects pregnancy) that would be present would be most concentrated then, it gets diluted throughout the day.

I took a test this morning and it had a very faint line. I will try one of the digital ones tomorrow. :( Im really upset about all this.

I also started bleeding a bit again just now.

Relax firstly, OP, I know its really scary, but stress is also a major factor and it can delay and mess up a woman's hormones. Wishing you all the best :)

Yes, thats true and my period isn't even due yet.

But I think I may be ok as I remembered about two years ago I had a similar problem, I started getting a brownish bleed nearly a week before my period was due and then the full event when it was due. It was as heavy as this time too although the two tests I did were negative at that time too.

I also spot for about a week before my period most of the time but it just seems heavier this time so I am wondering if I just have a luteal phase defect, alot of women have it but they don't notice until they are paranoid like me or charting their cycles. An implantation bleed doesn't always happen and they don't normally last so long.

Well I hope this is the case.

I cant say for sure, OP, as Ive no experience personally of it. But Ive read and heard implantation bleeding is generally very light and scanty, like other posters have said in their case it lasted a day but its supposed to be quite light and excuse the detail, but light pinkish. Not at all like the colour of an actual period. But as other posters have said, only a test will ease your mind and perhaps a trip to the doctor when enough time has passed. And perhaps it is worth looking at the website Thaedydal posted, if all comes to all, you'll be able to make the right decision for you, without pressure from people.

If you go to the family planning clinic they can do more accurate tests. :)

A faint line means you are pregnant hun. im sorry i know thats not what you would like to hear. Do the digital test and then go see a doctor. try not to panic easier said than done i know.

I had two negative digital tests this morning and the bleeding is still coming so I will leave it till I am properly due on Friday and do another test. If I don't start a proper bleed I will go to the clinic up the road.

Ms2011 - Just do a test and see, you are well overdue so it should be accurate. Best of luck with it. In my case I just don't trust the tests until the day I am due.

I had two negative digital tests this morning and the bleeding is still coming so I
delighted to hear you got 2 negatives. your very lucky let this be a lesson. Go on the pill if not already on it and practice safe sex at all times.

Ok my period started on Friday and then stopped very suddenly last night. I am bleeding a small amount at the moment but its fresh, red blood not brown like I had all week.

I just hate my body right now.

Im really freaking and I think that could have alot to with such a brief period.

Use a digital test like clear blue - it tests for a hormone only present during pregnancy and so the chance of a false positive is negligible...and since it tells you "pregnant" or "not pregnant" - imagining faint lines or worrying about lines appearing just doesn't happen.

    All the best

OP, I also suggest going to a doctor or planning centre for some piece of mind. But I think you're on the safe side here. Stress could easily have just messed up your cycle.

I honestly think you should go see a doctor. A test with a faint line is generally a positive, no matter how faint. (Unless you left the test long enough for an evaporation line to occur.) I don't want to freak you out, but from your description of events it's possible that you did conceive but the zygote failed to implant and you could be having a very early miscarriage. This is very, very common, and probably not something to worry about but you should still see a doctor to be on the safe side.

Sorry I need to explain it again.

A week before my period started I had a gush of fresh blood and until I was due on Friday I had a brownish bleed all week. My period did start on Friday and in the moring I did two clearblue tests that came up negative. The faint line I got was from Tuesday and it was old test. Anyway my period stopped on Saturday evening but I am now bleeding a bit again but not enough to even stain a pad.

I rang the doctor down the road from me and they said to leave a couple of days.

Those tests say they are 99% accurate but Ive heard so many people say they have been wrong. I was thinking what Iguana said but that shouldn't a miscarriage be a heavier period than normal?
