I am hoping to bring car down from the North next week and book it in for it's VRT Inspection. Once this is done, do I then have to book in again for an actual NCT as the car is over 4 years old?

Make sure you get the full V5 document and a reciept of some kind, could be hassle with VRT otherwise.

You need a NI mot or Irish nct to submit for vrt.

Just curious, but is there much difference in the price between the car you are buying with VRT all in, and a similar car down South?

To answer your question, yes you will need to book it in again once it's VRT'd and registered.

If it dos,nt have an mot or similar from another country you will have to have it tested before submiting it for vrt.Being registered has nothing to do with having a car tested.

The exact wording from the ncts web site is:

"For vehicles over 4 years old, an unexpired roadworthiness certificate confirming that an equivalent to the nct test has been passed. The vehicle will be called for a roadworthiness test (nct) shortly after registration"

You cant book an nct without an Irish registration number
    check the link your self
