Eircom Broadband only package

I have a friend who wants eircom broadband, but doesn't want any phone whatso-ever.

Basic enough 3MB should do him. I've tried finding out how much this should cost him on eircom's website but it asks for Line rental of 25 plus 30 for the 3mb broadband. Is this correct?

He has a line into his house and a telephone point near the front door so just getting this activated, and a modem posted to his house should do.

55 a month seems steep enough for just 3mb broadband, or am I missing something?

Your not missing anything, line rental is required. No way around it.

Go for UPC if it's available or Digiweb Metro,Ripplecom or another fixed wireless company.
I thought Eircom are doing a 'trialine' offer for NGB at €42 per month,Vodafone are offering a €38 per month package.
