Redundancy query

    Hi all,

My boyfriend was giving a letter yesterday offering voluntary redundancy. The offer is if he takes it they will give him €1000. I'm just wondering if he takes it, does this affect his entitlement to jobseekers?

He has worked at the same job for three years. When he started he worked for a company who held a franchise, however in April of last year the company who held the franchise lost the contract. My boyfriend and his collegues didn't lose their jobs but were now paid by the head company. They did the same jobs nothing changed except who actually paid them. My question is when calculating how much redundancy he is entitled to does he count from three years ago or from April last year? If it is from April of last year am I right in thinking he is entitled to nothing under law?

    Any replies gratefully received :)

there was a transfer of undertaking last april in your boyfriends workplace and he is entitled to redundancy at the rate of 2 weeks wages for each year he worked plus one week on top making that, approx 7 weeks wages. to get an exact figure Google "redundancy calculator" and follow the links.
if 1000euro is more than his actual entitlement then he is quids in. if it is less then he can complain. ring NERA 1890 80 80 90. stay on the line and dont follow any of the prompts until you get to speak to a human. may take 7 or 8 minutes but well worth it. to answer your other question, taking the voluntary redundancy will not affect his entitlement to JB but he still has to meet all the other requirements.
