I've noticed that the parents have a huge phone bill every 2 months amounting to about €300. Both my father and mother both use pay as you go mobiles as well amounting to another €40 or more a month each. Most of the landline calls are to mobile phones during the day especially when the father is ringing sales reps and that kind of thing. The landline is currently with eircom and includes broadband.

Have any of ye got better deals than that recently and also could they be entitled to a business package? I've thought about internet phones like skype and so on but they would never manage that and are computer phobic.

    Thanks in advance

They could try use something like www.blueface.ie for land line calls
and some bill pay package for mobiles
see how many minutes they use per month and pick package to suit
see callcosts.ie some offer free calls weekends etc.
You can port any number now so there tel numbers stay the same.

I have heard about blueface but don't know anyone currently using it. Are you using it yourself? Whats your experience been like? Do you also have to keep your landline, line rental etc with eircom as you need broadband?

I used it for a while but all my calls are to mobiles so I just use to mobile now with meteor.
I found it fine worked through normal house phone calls were clear.
I have wireless broadband and its free;)

My advice would be to get a bill pay mobile and use it fur ringing all mobiles. Mobile to mobile is far cheaper than land line to mobile. Especially with free mins.

I'll look into it. Might suit the folks better than an internet type phone. I'm sure I'd get plagued with questions if I got them into blueface

I use blueface for our phone, theres a special box, I can't remember what its caled, it explains it on bluface, but you plug this into your router, and then plug in the phone to this. Your pc does not have to be switched on, and you can keep your present number.

We got rid of the eircom landline and connected the box to the phone socket, so we can use all the old sockets and any phone in the house works fine, you have to disconnect the eircom wires where they come in tho.

It costs €149 pa for all landline calls to Ireland and the uk.

So theres a great saving there on line rental, we have a radio internet connection of 1mb for €29 a month.

When eircom goes down, usually a lightning strike, or careless hedge cutting cuts the wires it used to take at least a week for it to be repaired, the internet goes down occaisionly but never more than half a day.

If its mostly calls to mobiles then he might better off getting a bill pay. CCheck are they 086 or 087 calls. Vodaphone give 400 mins for c 80euro pus free 087 calls. Either vodaphone or ifa are good for landline deals. The big killer is landline to mobile or vice versa callssoit may work out cheaper to have both a mobile and a land line.
