Waterford - FF wave white flag

FF last night decided to run just one candidate - incumbant Brendan Kenneally, in the constituency. Waterford has always been easy pickings for FF gaining two seats almost every time - 47% of the first pref votes last time out. That they have pulled their horns in so far (and behind a pretty mediocre figure at that) suggests they fear the very worst from private pollling.

The Minister for the South East is no longer running

If he was still there he would probably have a running mate.
Over 23% of 1st preferences last time, hard for any candidate to match that

There are many constituencies where FF will run one candidate. A good strategy if they fear splitting the vote
Of course someone may leave the selection committee bitter and run as an Independent.
Happens all the time, has this happened in Waterford?

More interestingly, who will benefit from O'Shea's retirement?

Could be a Labour hold (Seamus Ryan ?) but if the national campaign has a few hiccups expect David Cullinane (sf) to press hard for the foutrth seat. He polled 3,330 first prefs in 07.

Think FG have a guaranteed two here (Coffey and Deasy), and the one man strategy should be enough to save Kenneally.

What is Deasys standing in Waterford? Is he liked or does he come across smug like on telly.

Will top the poll for FG anyway. Coffey expected to come in a close second. Its all to play for after that - can Seamus Ryan of Labour pull it back after tempting faith just running with a relatively known candidate? Or will the Independents overcome Labour and get them the seats.

Pretty amazing as he is one of the few really shallow and useless FG politicians. Appears to have no substance and speaks in sound bites. Displays all the behaviours of a Fianna Failer actually:mad:

Do not be surprised to see David Cullinane (SF) or John Halligan (Ind) get the fourth seat here.
