Specifically a sako 75 varmint/varmint laminated stainless in 7mm-08. Ive got a while to wait a round so if anybody happens to come across one of these in any shop in the country or a friend has one and for some reason wants to get rid of it let me know!!!(alternatively a .308 will do and i can rebarrel to 7mm-08)

If you end up going down the rebarrel route then a 22-250,243,7mm-08 and .308 all have the same bolt face so any of these calibres would be straight forward to change over! ;)

    Best of luck!

To the best ogf my knowledge any short action Remmy can be rebarreled in a different calibre by removing a sliver of bolt face and installing a new extractor claw.

I've heard a lot of good things about 7mm-08

    Dwight swears by his.

Ammo could be dearer though than .308 (although on a par with premium .308 rounds)

I hope to be in a couple of shops at teh weekend so i'll ask around.

Recoil from a 7mm08 is *significantly* less than from a .308, muzzle blast is very civilised. Excellent choice. Make sure you've a supply of ammo (or a dealer happy to keep you in it) and you're sorted. Would love one myself.

Also the .260rem as the sako 75 uses 5 different action/boltface sizes the action you are after is a sako 75 III

Both short and long action remmy actions can have the bolt face opened up and a sako (style) extractor fitted but the op is looking for a sako not a remmy. Alot of gunsmiths (especially USA) refuse to open up the bolt face let alone fit a sako (style) extractor as it weakens the bolt and in the event of an over pressure can cause the bolt face to crack/splinter leaving the bolt as nothing more than scrap, thats in a good case the sako (style) extractor could also be expelled away from the bolt. Then there is the issue of the over pressurised gasses being directed towards the shooter because the bolt has been modified.

This isnt always the case but has been know to happen but personally i wouldnt take the chance, its one thing truing a bolt but another to weaken it.
