Dakota over Limerick

Folks, just sitting on my lunch break and suddenly whoooom, I believe it's turboprop white/blue 'Dakota' whistling very low above my head...
Beautiful sight, I have to admit, unfortunately my camera died only recently and I haven't got replacement yet.
It made 5 passes so far.

Is there any geological or map survey going on over the east Limerick at the moment?

There was mention on RTE Morning Ireland this morning that an aircraft would be doing aerial surveying over Limerick between 9am and 5pm. Didn't mention types though.

That would explain the flashing road sign in Banouge Co. Limerick stating "WARNING LOW FLYING AIRCRAFT":D

    thats gas.
I was driving through Oola a few days ago and saw a big electronic sign "attention low flying aircraft" forgot all about it until half an hour ago I was driving North on the R513 into Caherconlish and saw what I thought looked like a Dakota flying very low accross my path in an East West direction. I thought to myself, that couldnt be a Dakota could it??
Seems my first impression was right. A Cool machine :D

I cant imagine it sounds as nice with those engines?!

And why use a Dakota for surveying. Id imagine a Caravan or Baron would be better suited, and cheaper!?

That's because of the general public - Dakota is much nicer aircraft to look at :D

I don't know, maybe the equipment she carries is too heavy and bulky for smaller a/c, or can fly longer? Haven't got a clue.

Friend of mine got a great picture today when it flew over Ballyneety.

There's a 20ft M.A.D. (Magnetic Anomaly Detector) boom out the back end. Prob why they dont use anything smaller, plus they have a lot of different survey gear in the back for different ops.

Oh come on, you can never replace the DC3. They have tried for years. Besides everyone loves the Dak.

Saw it today sitting in Galway. Just realised I have a contact. Time to call in a favour.
