Style Wise, What Car Do You Think The Americans Got Right?

While the Americans have produced some truely great cars I think it's fair to argue that they've never really been known for stylish or beautiful cars from the 60s onwards. I can think of at least one exception to this and that's the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray Coupe which in my opinion is as stunning looking as anything designed in Europe at the time.

Can you think of anything else that has been designed stateside from the 60s onwards that you can say is a truely beautiful design?

OP - I think this needs to be in Classic Cars - they'll have it choc-full of fibreglass & bling here in no time.;)

I had thought about that alright but I wouldn't want to rule out a car due to it's age.

As much as I like the Trans-Am, its not a beautiful car. It is pig ugly.

That's like saying in 20 years time, people are going to be called the Renault Modus a beautiful car.

    Mustang though. MOAR 'STANG!

I'm afraid to say that the beholder is wrong on this occasion!

Don't get me wrong, MCMLXXV, I love them and I think they're a cool looking car, but beautiful it ain't.

They might not always have the smoother lines of European supercars, but I think a load of them look super.

That's a British designed car with bigger arches. Couldn't really consider it an American styling exercise tbh.

    Ah,

    That would be Brian then?

He's buying the 454 T/A with red velour interior? That's an absolute BEAST of a car! He bought the Camaro from the same guy. Swapping it or getting a second one?

Haha, that'd be him. Giving the Camaro back as part of deal as far as I know.. Not totally sure though.

I've only seen pictures of it, it's an absolutely stunning car! A black car with red interior is unbeatable as far as I'm concerned.

Ford's US range is really looking quite well these days (no doubt with thanks to their use of Volvo stylists and chassis technology):

Seriously? I think that looks terrible.

That pic didn't do the 'stang justice. Hideous body kit.

Here is a stock Mustang GT (GT500), a perfect blend of modern chunkiness and retro fastback lines; one of the best looking cars ever made:

People will say this is cool long after that ridiculous Transformers yoke looks dated.

There is only one other one imho. Here it is in a certain German forest 40 odd years ago:

That said, beauty and styling is best left to the Europeans. The yanks are damn' right about one thing though. The big V8 petrol engines - no compromises :D

Sometimes I think Id prefer if Audi and BMW made the engines and suspension and the Yanks made the bodies. They just go balls out on everything.
