Can you tether a HTC and use its internet on your laptop without having to download anything from your pc. When I plug it into the laptop, and choose tether from the phone it says insert the disc that came with your ADB and can't locate the driver ..

If your laptop has wi-fi why not use your desire as a wifi hotspot?

You should update your phone to 2.2, then you got wifi hotspot built in. If you only have 2.1 then you don't got it. You can also use USB tether, just activate tether, plug in cable, should just work.

Shouldn't need drivers, might need manual install tho. Your phone should have come with these drivers on the sdcard (htcsync.exe). I think your problem is that it's a work laptop and you aren't allowed to install anything :)
