Facial hair & shaving

This issue sounds so trivial in comparison to other threads but I would just like some advice. I'm a 26 yr old male in a professional office job. Image is reasonably important in this job, suit has to be worn etc.

I have to shave with a razor every morning (Gillette Fusion!!) and I do. My hair grows back quite quickly- not long but just at the end of the evening I get a bit of stubble. And my hair is black so its look a bit more prevalent than other lads who do not have as much dark hair.

A superior mentioned to me today in the evening that I was poorly shaven. I responded that I actually had shaved this morning, and that it grows back quite quickly. Its the first time its being mentioned to me in 3 years so i'm a bit paranoid now- I thought that in shaving everyday that I was making an effort, but obviously its not working.

Any advice? I'm hoping not to go as far as having to bring a shaver and shave again half way through the day :/

OP, you may find some useful information in the Facial Hair & Hats forum, but be aware that they don't have unregistered posting there.

It would be unreasonable to expect someone to shave again during the day in a 9 to 5 job. I would be in a similar situation with five o'clock shadow kicking in in the afternoon. The response that you gave was perfectly acceptable as far as I am concerned. The fact that you pointed out that you had shaved today should put an end to it.

If you feel that you need to avoid agro in the future an electric shaver would do the trick. You could always keep it in your desk for times when you have to meet clients or whatever in the afternoon.

Not sure if this would help but I got a razorpit for my Dad for Xmas. I sharpens disposable razors and makes them last longer. About €30.

For someone with coarse stubble, electric razors do not work!

Gillette say it's fine to shave against the grain but it will make your hairs stick out and could make your stubble look worse. If you're not happy with your shave, apply some more shaving gel and shave the same area again but don't go against the grain. Replace your blade once a month too.

By shaving, your just getting rid of the top of the hair. It isn't like you can pause your hair growth throughout the day. Especially if you have deep dark terminal hair.

You shouldn't be expected to shave again during the day and I personally think a bit of a 5 o clock shadow looks a lot better than completely clean shaven too, so don't feel paranoid!!

I find the more you shave, the heavier the growth. Once a day is perfectly normal.

I find THIS to be excellent for thinning out the beard but its a bit dear at around €23 a bottle.
