Prize Fund for 10k Charity Race

    Hi,

I'm helping organise a 10k charity race for my company. We want to make it 100% proceeds for charity. They are looking for my advice as the resident "runner" in the company, but unfortunately I would never be good enough to know what kind of prize money race winners get.

I know that there are usually different categories, but can anyone give me advice on how much we should put up based on this being a charity race? Is it definitely required to have a prize fund, or could something like pieces of crystal suffice?

With a charity no prize is expected! I know that some have a prizes but unless you are planning to attract the top national and international runners a token (Trophy/Flowers/Winners Medal) is totally acceptable but not necessary.
Remember most people are running to support the charity or to beat their own PB's.

Totally agree with Dow99, no prize money in a totally for charity race. We organised a for charity race last year in aid of Galway Hospice and the Race Director got all the prizes - and there were a LOT of them donated by local suppliers including some very fine bits of crystal.

Thanks for your advice folks. Good to know we can take out the prize money from the budget. We have a local crystal supplier so might give them a shot at getting some prizes.
We'll get the route AAI certified, but I doubt we'll be aiming to attract the top national / international runners.
    Thanks again

agree with all that was said above. Prize money for proper charity (i.e all money going to said charity) races is not expected. A small piece of crystal would suffice.

+1 in fact putting prize money for a charity race can actually be a hinderance. Some people might feel that the money should go to the charity rather than entry fees covering cost of prize money as opposed to prizes which would go down alot better for the general public.
