    Good evening all,
Not actually in the market for buying a car myself. My 98 vag 1.9tdi is still turning :)

But down the road I always wanted to get a 6 cylinder diesel. Have read threads here where everyone says 6 cyl have less things to go wrong compared to the 4 cylinder diesels with dpfs etc.

530D and 3.O TDI seem to be the most desirable 6 cylinders.

Im curious to know what is the real mpg one can get if they are driven normally and on motorway journeys?

Would i get a shock with mpg changing from an early 4 cyl TDI to a frsh 6 cylinder turbo diesel?

    Thanks

530d has great mpg, friend of mine has one. But are u rly want to waste 1200 yoyos on tax ? :P

Compared to a two litre it's less that 2 euros a day extra and would be well worth it

Its not the reduction in fuel economy or the extra tax - its the servicing and maintenance costs that are the main difference between a vag standard yoke and a 530d.
A good one wont cost that much extra, but if you are buying oldish and cheapish you could be spending quite a bit on repairs - suspension and cooling system (assuming E39 is what we are talking about) both need looking at when you get to 100k+ miles

A 6cly petrol will have less to go wrong than a 4cyl diesel. A 6cyl diesel has 2 extra cylinders, 8 extra valves and a bigger turbo to go wrong.

Buy a Mercedes 300D or something similar with the OM602 5cyl diesel if you want reliability from a diesel.
