I have my first job interview tomorrow. On my CV I haven't listed any references, just wrote available on request. The reason for this is that I don't have any work experience so the only reference I have is my secondary school principal (I'm now in college), is it likely that they'll ask me for references at the interview?

It's a bit misleading to be honest, but whatever it takes to get an interview.

But if an interviewer picks up on it you could end up looking pretty daft.

The reason people write "available on request" is because they don't want previous employers contacted without their permission.

Contacting referees is one of the last things they'll do, so it probably won't come up during the interview.

It's not really misleading unless there's fake work experience on the CV that can't be backed up by a reference.

    What's misleading?

S/he can give the secondary principal's name and/or written reference, upon request.

And OP, if you don't have any work references, find some others: do you play sport (sports coach or captain), belong to any clubs (club officials who know what you do there), do any voluntary work (boss or whoever from there), do odd jobs for neighbours?
