Does anyone ever travel on a Saturday/Sunday for work purposes? And if so, do you take a day in lieu? Does the company you work for allow it/frown upon it/encourage it?

    Just wondering.....

In my old job, Id travel to the US a couple of times a year, out on Sunday afternoon, back on Friday arriving home about 10am Saturday morning.
    No time in lieu given.

I travel on a Sunday occasionally, or arrive home late on a Friday night. I'd generally take a couple of hours off at some stage but not really a full day. That said, they're flexible if I need to head off early or come in late occasionally, so it balances out.

Depends on what time the meetings are on a Monday. Early meetings I would prefer to fly Sunday instead of getting up at a ridiculous hour on Monday. No time in lieu given. But it balances out, some times you might fly back early in the afternoon and just go home.

No time in lieu given for me either. However my company are fairly decent, and if I need an hour here or there I get it.

I used to get a day for traveling over the weekend, but I have since changed my contract to get paid overtime for weekend travel. Sometimes I take a day or a half day here or there instead of the cash, it's at my managers discresion.

As mentioned above though, I think even if I didn't get anything I'd still travel on the Sunday, instead of going at ridiculous o'clock on a Monday morning

We used to get time in lieu but sure we barely had time to take our usual holidays nevermind extra ones.

The reason I ask is that some of my colleagues regularly fly to the states at the weekend. One or two take the day in lieu the following week but others don't.

I think the ones that don't are a bit afraid to take the day, but I completely agree with the ones that do. The company are effectively cancelling one of their weekend days. It's not as if spending 24+ hours travelling (California) is any fun.

They are surely entitled to it or am I wrong?

I travel regularly at weekends and I dont take time in lieu as the nature of my job is peaks and troughs so it balances out in the long run. The most annoying for me is my trips to Germany as flights to Frankfurt and Munich from Cork are on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Often on my trips I can pull 60-80 hour week as well and there is no way they will give me that much time in lieu.

I often bring my partner and child on these trips now as they get a bit of holiday and I get less earache.

I travel back and forward to the states regularly enough.

I get travel hours paid + a day in lieu which is the norm here in holland I think.

I travel regularly on Sunday evenings. The early Monday morning option is frankly downright miserable and I would already be up and travelling for 7-8 hours before even making it to the office.

I don't explicitly get time in lieu - but the nature of my work is flexible and once I wrap up this project (which has had me working 60+ weeks for the last year) I will arrange some additional time off on top of regular time.

However, if I had to give up a day etc for longhaul flight, I would charge that to the client and at some stage, I would expect some kickback for giving up that day.
