Windscreen scratched

So me being the fool I am, I forgot to top up the screen wash bottle last night as it was empty.:o
I forgot about that this morning and when I got stuck behind a lorry I hit the spray, only no spray appeared. The wipers kept going for their set tho.
I pulled in at a filling station and topped up the washer bottle and poured some water on the windscreen. But now it looks like the wipers scratched the windscreen.:(

Is there anything can be done to remove the scratches?

Also I realised how badly I need new wipers so can anyone recomend a good place to get them cheap?

I removed scratches on an old tractor windscreen using an old trick. It was washing powder (handwash type). I soaked the windscreen in it overnight - it was badly scratched from years with an dodgyy wiper. I know its not possible for you to soak your car windscreen in a tub, but you could try making up a wet solution on a towel, wash the scratches with the powder and leave the powder soaked wet towel on it overnight. It worked really well for me and it won't cost you a lot, even if it doesn't work for you.

If the scratch is wisible within the wiper sweep it is a NCT failure.

Worth checking if you have windscreen cover. :p

Take it for a wash first, might not be as bad as it looks now.

Your wipers must be farked if they scratched the windscreen just from wiping with no water

Are you sure it is scratched? Just from one wipe...

I would give it a good wash with some hot soapy water, maybe it is dried salt on the window.

    I might just try that.

    Would windscreen cover cover it?

It seems to be, I tried to wipe it with my thumb to see if it was just dirt but no joy.:(
The wipers go over 5 or 6 times when you hit the spray button, and the window was rotten form being behind a lorry on a road covered in dirt from a building site.
Just soapy water? Or use some of the stuff for cleaning the house windows?

If you are not sure about windscreen cover covering scratches, ring your local autoglass or similar, make sure they have your windscreen in stock and if they have, go to the shed and get a hammer............... It's important you check your insurance cover and windscreen stock. Buy Bosch wipers as I think they are the best.

This is insurance fraud and therefore against the Charter.

    Please don't suggest this again.
