Hi, Ive been living out of home for about 2 years now, I moved in with my girlfriend and her 9 year old. We were both in a very good jobs 2 years ago, but as time went on, hours were cut, pay was cut, and in the end i lost my job.

About a month after I lost my job we found out she was pregnant. Her hours have been cut now too as she cant do as much being pregnant and all.

Baby is due on 1st of april, and our lease is up in july. We dont know how we are going to make rent, pay bills, and look after 2 kids with me on the dole and her on maternity leave.

The only option i can see is moving back into my mams house, with my family. Its a 4 bedroom house and its just her living there with my sister who is never really home.

Our plan is to save for a mortgage and for me to get in back into work. So we are looking at about 2 years of living with my mother.

Not everyone is happy with the situation.

Can anyone tell e if they have done this sort thing before and their experiences? Or even a few tips.

    Thanks everyone.

    Hi Op,

Sorry to hear about your situation. I was in the same predicament myself. Was living with someone, lost my job and had to move to my folks it was horrible.

In the meantime met someone else and was saving so he asked me to move into his folks (he's any only child), both his parents worked and that seemed to fit at the time. For me personally it was an experience I'd never go through again, no matter how desperate. I had by bf's mother in my face constantly, everytime I'd come in from work she would straight in my face what I was upto, where I was going, who with. I was polite all the time but it drove me mad, I even found her in my bf's room a few times. She would say she was looking for something but then would bring up conversations about personal stuff belonging to me that she couldnt have know.

Now I know that was my experience and yours could be different depending on your mother and sister. I would just try and chat with them first and see how you all see it working. Along the lines of cleaning, bills, private spaces etc. Most important thing to remember is that you are under someone elses roof so really their rules apply.

Good luck op hope it all works out.

Have you applied for social housing? I know it can take a long time to process but there would be no harm in seeing what is available before discounting it. And are you currently receiving your full SW entitlements including rent allowance? The first thing I'd do in your situation is make an appointment with your SW office to find out your exact entitlements and wait until after that to make any decision.
