The online price of cars

Just something I heard before, that dealers but the prices up online for more than they initially intend to sell them for, to leave room for haggling etc. Is this true?
I know that all prices depend on various different factors (nct, miles, condition etc). But If so, how much roughly would they mark up the online price?

Of course there's room to haggle on prices put up. The amount depends entirely on the car in question.

In all my car buying years I've seldom seen such oppurtunities for 'haggling'.

It's not an art, you simply research the going rate & apply mercilessly. . .

Sorry, I mean in relation to the price that the cars would be advertised on the dealer forecourt, because obviously theres opportunity to haggle there too. I've seen a few pictures online, where you can see a sign on the car, where the price is different (sometimes higher, sometimes lower) than the online price.

And unfortunately we can't go to every garage to make sure they're the same.

I would love to deal in real prices! no haggling, just tell me your real bottom line and i'll pay that! Unfortunately you have to wade through the bs to get to the real price.

There must be a glut of cars on the market atm, the real price is what anyone is willing to pay at this point in time.

It used to do my head in too, even the local paper, but you just have to deal with the seller & assess each car on its own merits.

You sound a sales man's dream :pac:
Loads of folks ask what's the bottom line on a car, salesmen often say the screen price testing the water, and loads of numpties say ok, then tell all their friends what a deal they got.

Of course, how else would they know your bottom line?;)
