Yea thats not a half bad idea, if you get it printed on a sticker similar to the ones you put on cars you can attach it to the side or you could make a patch and stick it on your gear :)

Was thinking of lamination but not the best if stuff gets wet.
And printable stickers may rub off and ruin the image.
Be nice to stick on the sides of guns though :D or stuff that
tends to get lost at skirmish sites! uber geeky too.

Yea, Unless you engraved it down with a computer controlled milling machine it will eventually wear off. Good idea though, where ya get the QR code done though?

I supose if you got an inkjet printer to print onto a plastic sticker like medium they would be cheap enough to slap one onto a gun each time your skirmished or when they wore away or got damaged.
I've a G36C with no Trads that has a little square blank bit thats just itching to get something put
    into it.

i've seen them on the side of the Classic Army M6 AEG range. Some optics now have them on the side. They seem to be laser etched into the metal but they will still waer over time.

Forgive me but what's this thread about??

(I know what 2d codes are and how to read them, just wondering how it relates to Airsoft?)

I was wondering the same thing?

i think theyr talking about using them to distinguish their AEG's from another persons and having their contact detail stored in the code. Which isnt a bad idea but not everyone has a scanner on their phones.

Well it relates to airsoft because manufactures are starting to re-produce
them on airsoft gear which includes the barcodes that are seen on their real-steel counterparts.

On the airsoft ones the codes are probably not going to match whatever
the real-steal ones have on them. + for cheaper cloned gear or stuff
imported from the US they may not have the markings at all on them.

People that buy such goods and may want to reproduce the barcodes
on their equipment might as well have actual data contained in the code
    rather than useless information.

For Skirmishers I thought it would be useful for them if they had gear they
could put a bar code on with useful information on it rather than gibberish.

As in "if found please return to....." etc

Handy if you loose a Pistol/Magazine etc while skirmishing and
someone finds it a day or two later and is honest enough to return it to ya.

While you get the same effect by sticking a small label someplace in plain text its just downright more dorky/nerdy/geeky and bit of fun to stick one of these codes in that newer phones can read.
(or absolutely useless if whoever looks at the code is not able to scan it! ;-) )

Cool, that makes sense alright. :)

pTouch printer, use them all the time, very good. Good section of label types available including anti tamper ones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,612 ✭✭✭bullets

    must google that printer :D
I was surprised at how much text you could put in them,
and I hear newer ones that are coloured are now being used to store
    small 1-2mb videos

Was not sure who actually went to the trouble of scanning it! :D
was half expecting all the replies to be in QR code, that would make for
a pretty unusual thread for anything that had not got a clue what was going on!

Just in case anyone's wondering what's being said (and you haven't got a fancy schmancy phone app), copy the URL of the image and paste it in http://zxing.org/w/decode.jspx to read.

I am gonna stop reading this thread. Everytime someone puts up a code, I can't help but scan it to see what it says. It's insideous. :p

So I will leave this thread on this note:
