Toyota To Recall 19,000 Cars In The UK
The car manufacturer said hundreds of Toyota Avensis and Lexus IS 250 models could be at risk of fuel leaks if they are not modified by mechanics.

The company confirmed there were no known accidents related to the defect.

However, the faults are the latest in a series of quality control problems to have hit the manufacturer, which has recalled nearly 1.7m Toyota-made vehicles worldwide.

Officials say they are writing to the owners to arrange free repairs, which are expected to take up to four-and-a-half hours.

The 15,500 owners of Toyota Avensis 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre petrol engine models, produced between July 2000 and September 2008, are eligible for the repair.

Another 3,100 UK-registered Lexus IS 250 petrol engine vehicles, produced between August 2007 and February 2009, are also affected.

Jon Williams, Managing Director of Toyota GB, said: "We are committed to putting the customer first and have a total focus on the quality of all our products.

"We will liaise with our customers to carry out the repair procedures as efficiently as possible, with minimal disruption."

Poor Toyota, if they had carried out the recall on the accelerator pedal straight away instead of leaving it go for a while they wouldn't be in the media every time they have to do recalls. All car makes do recalls.

Toyota Ireland will be feeling smug seeing as our taxation system at the time favoured the 1.6 powerhouse.

    +1

I'd say there will be more IS250's affected by this in Ireland than 2.0 or 2.4 litre Avensis's's's's's'sssss (Avensi?).

More than 400 Toyota and Lexus cars are being recalled in Ireland as part of global recall by the car maker of more than 1.7 million vehicles worldwide.

Toyota Ireland said the move was precautionary and it would be writing to customers to inform them.

Some 253 Avensis models are being recalled to replace the fuel pipe and inspect the fuel pump check valve. The affected cars are 2.0 and 2.4 litre petrol vehicles produced between July 2000 and September 2008.

A further 186 Lexus IS250 petrol cars are also included in the recall, which will check the torque on the fuel pressure sensor. Those potentially affected were produced between August 2007 and February 2009.

"We will be writing to customers in the immediate future to arrange for them to make an appointment with their local dealer to have the repair procedure carried out at a time that is convenient and which ensures minimal disruption for the customer," said Toyota Ireland's managing director David Shannon.

The global recall is the the latest in a string that have ballooned to nearly 16 million since late 2009, further denting the carmaker's reputation for quality.

The latest recall will make it harder for Toyota to convince investors it has put its quality problems behind it a year after the car company went into crisis after massive recalls worldwide to fix faulty brakes blamed in the fatalities of several drivers.

"Toyota faces harsh competition from Honda, which is in a much better situation in the US market - this is reflected in its stock price which now stands at multi-year highs," said Mitsushige Akino, chief fund manager at Ichiyoshi Investment Management.

"That's why investors are a little nervous and sold Toyota when this negative news came out," he said.

Toyota was the only major car maker to see its sales fall in the United States last year, and just squeaked by General Motors to keep its spot at the top of the global sales ranking.

Toyota said it was also recalling around 335,000 Lexus units sold overseas, including about 245,000 sold in the United States, due to trouble with a fuel pressure sensor connected to an engine fuel delivery pipe.

The recall of the Noah models sold in Japan covers those manufactured between May 2000 and October 2008.

In two other filings today, Toyota said it would recall about 75,000 Crown models and about 6,200 Townace vans in Japan to fix the same fault found in Lexus cars sold in the US and elsewhere.

Toyota said in a filing to Japan's transport ministry that no accidents had been reported because of the defects.

Toyota declined to say how much the latest recalls would cost.

Toyota's last big recall was in October when it said it would fix 1.66 million Avalons, Highlanders and other models worldwide mainly for a defect in the master cylinder brake seal.

Shares closed down 1.9 per cent at 3,400 yen, underperforming a 0.6 per cent fall in the benchmark Nikkei average.

Shares of Honda, Japan's second-largest automaker, gained 0.7 per cent to 3,470 yen

Does anyone know if this would include the 2.4 Litre Camry? My mother has a 2004 one. AFAIK they are the same engines.

    Official Toyota Statement
Toyota Ireland Statement on the Recall of 253 Avensis

Toyota Ireland is to recall 253 Toyota Avensis 2.0/2.4 litre petrol only vehicles to replace the fuel pipe and inspect the fuel pump check valve. The vehicles potentially affected were produced between July 2000 and September 2008.

In addition Lexus Ireland is to recall 186 Lexus IS250 petrol vehicles to check the torque on the fuel pressure sensor. In the case of the Lexus IS250 petrol the vehicles potentially affected were produced between August 2007 and February 2009.

No other Toyota or Lexus models are involved.

There have been no reports in Ireland involving these issues and the measure is precautionary.

Typical stupid media, just out to do harm for the sake of a story.
How in the hell could Toyota putting their quality issues behind them last year possibly affect cars made 4 years ago?

They were still the biggest car maker in the world last year and increase their market share not bad for a company with so many high profile recalls.

It also probably shows that people are sheep afraid of change.

Edit: not saying this is a massive recall but what happened in the states last year is still very much in the public eye with cases now starting to be settled.
Which when you see increase sales figures is surprising

Maybe people are sheep, or maybe in the US General Motors were producing such muck that the Toyota equivelant was actually a good idea, and even if your fuel pump might be on the blink, doesn't mean it's a bad car...

Actually, I'm wrong. They announced a recall in the States today for a separate, but similar sounding issue.

    http://pressroom.toyota.com/pr/tms/toyota-announces-voluntary-recall-191329.aspx
Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., today announced that it will conduct a voluntary Safety Recall involving approximately 245,000 2006 through 2007 Lexus GS300/350, 2006 through early 2009 Lexus IS250, and 2006 through early 2008 Lexus IS350 vehicles sold in the U.S. to inspect the fuel pressure sensor installation.
    .............
Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) today announced a separate recall involving 1.3 million vehicles worldwide to remedy a different condition on a different fuel delivery pipe and a high pressure fuel pump check valve. TMC’s recall announcement does not involve vehicles sold in North America
    .
