Had to take the family dog to the new vets recently for a routine check. Vet was similar age to myself& in another setting, would be interested in seeing him again socially- there's no real way I can find out if he's available besides asking him outright I suppose?
(Dog is fine& needs no follow up appointments!).

Why not just pop in - ask to see him and thank him for the care of your dog.
Then ask him if he would like to join you for a drink / coffee sometime.

If he says no - it really is no harm. Personally I would be thrilled and even if I was with someone else it would give me a lovely boost.

    Nothing ventured, nothing gained...

My only worry is: what if he's married?, I really don't know if he is or not, but he wasn't wearing a band on the day I met him(though this may be because of the job!).
It's a small town& I don't want word to get out that I hit on a married guy! But there's probably nothing else for it just to bite the bullet I guess, I've no other way of sussing out the situation

On a similar vein to what Taltos said, you could always drop in a thank you card (in a sealed envelope, so no worries about anyone else reading it) with your number and and invitation to coffee, etc.
