Prebooked Tickets - taking a different train

    Hi, is it possible to travel with a prebooked ticket with a seat reservation, on a different train on the same day.

    It is possible but you need to get the ticket endorsed at the station. You may have to pay a supplement too. If you get a different train to the one booked without getting the ticket endorsed first then it's possible you'll be fined.

    Ticket Collection Options

    Postage
    Where postage has been selected the ticket(s) will be posted to the billing address of the card holder. For addresses outside the Republic of Ireland, the ticket(s) must be collected at the specified station.

    Vending Machine

    Tickets that are booked online or through our telesales service can be collected from our ticket machines.
    Just enter the Reservation Number on screen or swipe the credit card you booked with. If you cannot locate a ticket machine - please call to the booking office.

    Booking Office

    Click here to view the list of stations where tickets can be collected. Tickets may be collected at the booking office by presenting the credit/debit card used to make the booking. If the appropriate card is not presented, then the ticket(s) may only be collected by presenting one of the following;

    * A valid driving licence or passport
    * An alternative credit/laser card to the one used for the booking
    * Note:Iarnród Éireann reserves the right not to furnish any ticket to any person other than the holder of the credit/laser card used for the booking

    Ticket Rules

    Changes and cancellations

    Passengers wishing to travel on the same day, but on an alternative train other than the time shown on their ticket, can do so provided seats are available, by paying a surcharge. The surcharge of up to €40 should be paid at the booking office before boarding the train.! If a booking office is not open the surcharge must be paid on board the train. All tickets are only valid for travel on the dates printed on the ticket only.

    Failure to produce a valid ticket, appropriate ID or surcharge where necessary will result in a fine of €100 together with the relevant unpaid fare.

    To cancel a reservation call the Iarnród Éireann Travel Centre on 1850 366 222 (00 353 1 8366222) . Opening hours are 08.30 - 18.00 Monday to Friday and 09.00 - 18.00 Saturday or alternatively, outside opening hours, email info@irishrail.ie. Change and Cancellation charges apply. Cancellation requests made after the dates printed on the ticket cannot be facilitated. Bookings that have not been cancelled prior to the expiry date on the ticket are not eligible for refund.

    In order to qualify for a refund, cancelled tickets must be submitted to Iarnród Éireann within 28 days of the expiry date! as printed on the ticket. Cancelled tickets should be submitted to Iarnród Éireann Travel Centre, 35 Lower Abbey Street, Dublin 1.

    The following refund rules apply:


    * Cancelled up to the day before travel - 80% refund
    * Cancelled on the day of travel - 50% refund
    * All cancellations must be made before the time of travel to be considered eligible for refund
    * Tickets must be submitted to the address shown above before a refund can be processed
    * No refund on transaction and credit card fees.

    Reservation Special Notice:


    Reservations on the 07.30 & 15.30 services to Galway/Westport Monday to Thursday and Saturday cannot be guaranteed due to technical reasons with the splitting of the train in Athlone. Passengers for Galway please join the first three coaches at the top of the train and Westport should board the rear three coaches.
