    Hi lads,

Looking for your opinion. Mate of mine who works in an embroidery business offered to put my name on my bag for free (taylor made tour bag) which I thought sounded like a great idea.

Am due to drop it over tomorrow but worried now that it might look a bit sad? Possibly a step to far? Don't want to ruin the bag.

Unless you're a pro, and a pretty decent one, you'll look a prize cock

For the love of God man, don't do it!!!:eek:

Keep it discreet and small it'd be ok. Like f22 says tbh.

I wouldn't to be honest. If you put your name on it you can't ever pass it onto someone else or sell it. Plus most people will think you're cocky!

Quick replies have settled it ! Thanks lads jus confirming what I was thinking myself!

As far as I know, it is against the rules of amateur status. Only pros can have their names on equipment

My first ever inter-club match (barton cup) was against a youngish lad with his name on the tour bag and also printed on his titleist golf ball too... motivation enough right there to beat him. He was off 5 or something but it just isn't cricket... you're only setting yourself up for a fall no matter what way you look at it.

Your ok with your own name - not allowed to display any other advertising

Funny this should come up, I was down in Dundrum GC in Tipp and there was a guy there with his name on his bag, first impression "dic"....

I had a Hippo Golf bag before, everbody "thought" it was personalised :o
Tbf, having your name on your golf bag just marks you out as being a prick.

You could put something funny in small text saying I HAVE SMALL BALLS on it:D

Nearly sure displaying your own name is against rules.

Guy in the club I play played in that Trilby series and got a bag with his name on it. Went to play a scratch cup and it was brought to his attention that he shouldn't use that bag.

    Link to that "rule" please...

    And we have a winner!

OK, I think the consensus is that having your own name on the bag would be lame. How about we re-purpose the thread as a kind of "caption competition"?
People suggest things to get embroidered on the bag, a winner is chosen, Tin_Cup (if he's game) gets his mate to embroider it on the bag.

    Well? :D:D:D

An amateur is allowed to put his name on his equipment. There is a rule stating that he cannot gain financially out of it. So if OP is not getting sponsored or receiving payment of any kind with regards to his name being on his equipment then it is OK.

Funny the reaction to putting your name on your bag. I purchased a tour bag this year and was advised by several people to put my name on it to discourage it being robbed (no 2nd hand market for it)

I thought better of it as many before have said you will look a tit.

I have my name on all of my golf bags, and on the left slieve of all my t shirts and rain gear. The back of my hat has the less formal "Sheet" embroiderd on it, and for away Barton Cup fixtures, I have a club jumper that says "f*ck you and your golf course" under the crest.

Great idea but gonna leave the bag text free for now. Anyone any ideas for possible captions tho??

Maybe should get "Shooter McGavin" on it ??

    There's a much simpler option

Get your name embroidered on a golf towel... Nobody see's it(Unless you wana show them) and you get t wipe your clubs in your own name, and re-sell your bag.. :)

I have one, got it off this http://www.golferscave.com/... only €14 too

This has just reminded me of the scene in Step Brothers:

Maybe you should get something like this put on your bag OP??

Janey! It's amazing to see how much peer pressure there still is for grown up adults long after they left school!!

I have to laugh at the idea of not doing something you think would be nice in case some random people who you probably will never know might think you're a dick. It's pretty sad really! Who the f**k cares what Joe Ar*ehole at the club thinks of you?

Put your name on your bag if you like the idea. Don't do it if you don't like it. But at least get a life of your own when you make the decision!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 619 ✭✭✭sweetswing

I'm getting "sweetswing" put on my bag, in 4 inch capitals :D
My friends call me sweetswing when the slagging starts, it's a name I like , I think it will look good on the bag.
I don't see it as a big deal, just a way to personalize it without going over the top.

Ok you have a point there but i still wouldn't put my own name on the bag maybe a nickname but not your own name thou

I agree with you Fore, we shouldn't discourage ideas and suggestions like this. Then none of us would get the chance to have our mini chortle when the guy on the first, name emblazoned on Ping Tour bag, IJP threads, Pro V1x with white R11 knocks it down in front of himself.

Of course the converse must also apply - if he creases it 290 to centre mow, hats off ;-)

    Stewart cink on twitter....

He's so good he's got his name on his bag, and another guy's name too!! Www.plixi.com/p/85294805

... For the record, I would be very cautious about getting the name on the bag, but get a personal logo or quote....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,437 ✭✭✭FAILSAFE 00

I wouldnt be concerned about what people think, anyone who thinks your a d*ick for having your name on a bag isnt someone you would want to play with in the first place. It shouldnt be about what i think, its about what it does for you having your name placed there.
I can think of 1 positive, people would remember your name much easier :)

Maybe get the 1MAC0CK personalised number Plate too if it's still available
