baker's a good player, but tends to get caught out by balls over the top

    is clark injured?

also, surely gabby's gonna play up top more than the right wing

id expect him to start there but switch with ash pretty quickly

We'll see but Young in the middle is the way it is this season and that's that.

cant get my head around why. its not like hes been great there. he's a winger, simple as that, and gabby isnt

I'll probably depend on how the game is going. I can see him starting on the wing, then pushing forward if we need a goal.

Well Houllier is looking for a playmaker type in the middle and Young is our best option in his view.

its a waste of a player though, means we're essentially playing with the equivalent of 10 1/2 players instead of 11, since 2 players are doing half the job theyre capable of

i mean, at least start albrighton on the wing ffs

Well in that case we'd be better dropping Gabby altogether, and go with Marc right, Downing left and Ash in the middle.

He's probably using Gabby for his pace and strength chasing down balls and putting full backs under pressure.
I'm not saying I agree just suggesting what he might be thinking.

Is this Bakers PL debut? can't recall him playing before. Would have thought Heskey would've been a banker to start, full of selection surprises is our Ged.

I think Gabby has been ok out on the left, remember it was he who won the ball and passed to Ash which led to the goal against City.

    C'mon the Villa!

Slightly worried that there are no defenders on the bench. If anyone in the back 4 gets injured we could have a problem. Although Reo-Croker could probably slot into RB if we are really stuck. But it's nice to see some attacking options on the bench

Are we resting Clark or is he injured?

Delighted to see McCarthy back in the squad, after seeing what happened to Meyler i hope he's not being rushed back into things because the team is struggling.

Just saw it mentioned that we've used the most players in a season this year, although most of them were by force.

Also our not playing XI: Guzan, Young, Clark, Davies, Lichaj, Albrighton, Petrov, Bannan, Delph, Heskey, Delfouneso.

    Not a bad team either

Any reason why Albrighton is on the bench?

That was some death stare from Reo to McCarthy looked like he wanted to rip his head off

First touch from Bent was poor there, if it was better it was in the back of the net.

Makoun looks like he could do with a few pies to fatten him up!

Ashley as captain whats that about?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,397 ✭✭✭OneColdHand

A strange lack on incidents in that half.

Lets hope Villa can up the tempo in the second half.

    How's Bent playing lads?

    He's captain a lot.

0-0 half time, we need more controlled possession in their half, we're losing the ball too much there and not creating much as a result. Gabby again is not working out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,518 ✭✭✭matrim

Baker's had a decent first half but doesn't get forward much. And as Gabby isn't a winger it means we have to try do everything down the right (with 2 left wingers playing).

Also Wigan have gotten to us through the center a couple of times. We need to tighten up there

I've Young anytime scorer at 11/4, how's it looking?

Was nice to see Makoun play the ball out there instead of hoofing it out.

Come on lads, get a second now!

Did anyone else just lose the stream?

I'll give him a few games before he's up to speed. Did like his passing though.

I know that but Dunne or Reo would be a better Captain

yellow was fair enough as there was cover. But he should have had a yellow in the first half too

Great to see that Trapattoni left McCarthy out of the Irish squad. Fantastic decision. Who needs a fit McCarthy when you can have Paul Green.

crap the stream is gone dead on trigoals any other good ones?
