Moving to the UK... Will There Be Much Paperwork?

Right, so I'm trying to start planning a move to Liverpool in May/June. I've just found my dream college and course and I wanna get over there a few months before it starts to settle in, find a place to live, find a job, etc.
I'm not very clued-in on the whole moving country process, so I just wanted to ask if anyone knows if there's any paper work or legal stuff that I have to deal with before I can move over?
Also, any other tips or suggestions would be mucho appreciato'd.
