It a 2005 Peugeot 206. Basically the engine light has come on and the car cut out a few times. I got it serviced and they can't tell whats wrong withoug doing a diagnostic. The mechanic I use doesn't have one and another garage is looking for €100.

First of all you will have to ascertain if your car is ODB2 compliant or not. It should be stamped under the bonnet or some reference made to it in the documentation. Other criteria that would be of use would be physical parameters such as baud and bit rate.

Are you after a handheld scanner or a cable for a laptop?

I bought an Elmscan 327 from amazon and downloaded a version of scanxl from the web.....I used it to view and clear engine management codes on a 2002 Suzuki (which has a Peugeot 2.0 HDI engine).
