Hi, I play the guitar a bit and now want to learn to play traditional Irish songs on the guitar. What are the tunes that I need to know? i.e. the most popular ones that everybody knows.

Also, does anybody know of any good websites to learn from?

    thanks

    http://www.irishguitar.net/index.html

I don't know what this guy's book is like but his site has a few free lessons and they're quite good. :) He gives you the chords and a strumming pattern and a midi file to listen to. Covers differnt tuning too.

    Hey pb1991,

It would all depend on the kind of session you want to involve yourself in. If its Ballad sessions we can talk as I am not too aquainted with the Jig's and Reels side of Trad...Whichever it is I'm sure someone will help you in your serching for Trad guitar music.

I think I'd kinda be more interested in jigs and reels, but sure throw me a few suggestions anyway.

Popular session tunes are going to vary depending on where you are and who you're playing with. It might be an idea to check out the Comhaltas Foinn Seisiun books - they have session tunes in them that most people would know.
