Beginners Question

My apologies if this has been covered before but I can't find a beginnners guide to freesat and associated stuff. I have tried to follow the very informative posts here but some are a little advanced for me.
What I am looking for is some help on changing from a UPC connection to freesat. I will probably get a commercial supplier to install everything but I would like to know what they are doing.
I appreciate the channels that are available and the ones that are not. I would like to know what to look out for and the pitfalls to avoid. And perhaps to get a supplier recommendation as well.
What should I be looking for in regards to digital tv in Ireland with hd and the ability to record onto hard disk? Are there any near future developments to be wary of? What do I need to do for multiroom viewing? What size dish do I need? Do I need to receive from more than one satellite? These and other questions keep me awake at night but I am hoping there is a FAQ somewhere that will help me rest. Any help will be much appreciated

The box needs to have an actual "freesat HD" logo
A true PVR has internal Hard Drive and two tuners and needs two cables from Dish
Basic Multiroom is a Quad or Octo LNB on a Dish. Fully flexible Multiroom viewing is a Multiswitch (allows up to 8 PVRs and expandable to 1000s in guesthouse, apartments or Hotel)

Hi, I'm in the same boat as bbay. I just bought a 3d hd tv and I feel the analogue signal is a bit weak from UPC.

I'd like to go Soar and freesat Hd.

    All advice welcome.

    Thanks

The 3d tv should be saorview compatible-you just need an aerial, check terrestrial forum for help on transmitters in your area, all you need buy is the freesat hd box and a dish for your satellite reception.
