    Hi there

I have always wanted to try skiing so decided were going to book it for early march ... We got this deal where it included ski equipment hire, lift passes, ski tuition (all for two days) accomdation for three nights transfers to/from airport, plus access to two club events and including flights it works out €470....

Is this a bit expensive for two days skiing or is this rather good considering they organise everything for you ....

Hey, I'm just back from Zakopane.

Pricing sounds about right, you could do it yourself for slightly cheaper, but you'd loose out in terms of time spent on the slopes; the system over there is a bit wierd and takes a while to figure out. Food and beer is pretty cheap over there too so you shouldn't need to bring that much more with you.

The runs per mountain aren't that varied but that probably won't matter so much when you're just begining.

One thing I would say is get a few Polish phrases before you go over, they don't have a lot of english over there and it'll make your life easier.

If you have the time go for a walk in the National park by Kuznice, it's pretty class.

I'm flying into Krakow on the 1st of April and would like to go snowboarding. Do ye have any idea what the snow would be like at that time of the year?

1st of april is normally very late. Your best bet for conditions is this place. http://www.kasprowy-wierch.pl/ Although it is fairly steep terrain.

Zakopane is very limited in general.

I would suggest crossing the border to Slovakia and trying to get to Jasna if you can.

Cheers thanks a mill. And in the Slovenia resort, do you think it'd be a bit late going April 1st? Is it suitable for beginners?

Jasna is in Slovakia and it's suitable for all types. Again april would be a bit late. The season ends on 15th so you are more likely to get good snow the earlier you go.

Most of the reds on the piste map I would consider to be blue so actually more suited to beginners than it looks. I would suggest lessons if you are a complete beginner but have no idea what the schools are like here. If you are going for a couple of days just to learn, zakopane would be enough, but if you are there for a week I reckon it would be better heading to Jasna.

Plenty of options in Jasna and about the best of the eastern european resorts.

Was thinking of trying to organise a weekend break of skiing after the depression of arriving back from Austria on Saturday!

Is flying to Krakow the best option for getting to the Jasna resort? Read nothing but good things about Jasna...

This is one of the only major problems with the place. Getting there. If you look on the Map its about the same distance from Bratislava as it is from Krakow, maybe krakow a little closer.

Poprad Airport is the closest and about 40 minutes by train but you can't get a direct flight from Dublin. Skyeurope used to fly there but they are gone.

I've only ever gone by car from Krakow so can't tell you any other way. But I read the train from Bratislava to Livtovsky Mikulas is 3 hours and from there about 30 minutes. Its also supposed to be a very attractive journey and is obviously a comfortable way to travel.

No train from Krakow but I know there is definitely a coach from Zakopane to Livtovsky Mikulas, then from there again about 30 minutes.

Its a great little resort though and cheap as chips. You can get a chalet beside the lift for buttons (at least you could when I went).

These '-life' websites are excellent sources of information. They have them for a lot of different eastern/central european cities.

There is also a lot of info on the Jasna Resort website http://www.jasna.sk/en/winter/

If you do go through Bratislava let us know how it was.
