Best Fry in Galway

Keep seeing things in a few posts which note different places as having the best breakfast all of which are open to argument.

I really feel and have for years that the Trappers Inn, Tuam Rd has the best fry.

    Price €8
    Tea/Coffee
    Toast
    2 x Jumbo Sausages
    2 x big rashers
    2 x Eggs
    Black & white pudding
    Mushrooms
    Fried potatoes
Beans (in a small bowl on the plate)

I personally hate when my beans mix with my egg and loved the touch of the little bowl of beans.

They'll throw baskets of toast at you and the service is incredible.

I'm up for debate but try it first and you'll agree.

A side not their Omlette comes with fried potatoes and however many fillings you need and looks to be made of around 5 eggs.

Best ones for me: Finnegans on Market Street or Jalapeno on Quay Street.

There is also a Feeney's B&B on the Upper Salthill Rd just as you're leaving the main part of the village but I haven't been in since they renovated.

Might try Trapper's one of the days, but would need to plan ahead seeing as it's good walk away. What time do they open at?

I see your Trappers and raise you Frends :)

I'll double dice on the Frends....especially if I am trekking north. As the book said.

    +1 on Frends.

Trisha's down by the backdoor of the Eyre Square Shopping Centre can be quite nice too and pretty cheap.. €6.50.

Damn you. Damn you all. Now I seriously want a fry.

Friends is nice, but I got the feeling the price of breakfast went up there in the last few months. Aint it like €9 or €9.50 for the large fry up?

The Banx down in Liosbain do a good breakfast too.

Must venture up to the trappers though as that sounds like a good deal, there carvery lunch is decent too.

Riordans club sandwich is the best thing for a hangover ever, love it

Where is this Frends place ye speak off??

Live beside Trappers so many a hangover morning has been spent strolling down there for a grease fix or also up to the Galway Plate if we fancy a longer stroll.

The Home Plate on Mary St gets my vote. The home fries really make it. And yeah, thinking about it makin' me hungery.

It's on the Tuam Road just past the Travel Lodge if your heading out of town. And beside the Gym.

    Now I want a fry :(
Please provide detailed directions to Trappers and Frends.
Homeplate and Jalapeno would get my vote.

Rough directions: clicky, I put frends location as the travel lodge as frends aren't on googlemaps - nor is their exact address

Trappers is good, Frends is good (and fast), Riordans and Finnegans are awful(seeing as they are the same place effectively).
Mc Swiggans does a nice breakfast too, Buskers is really nice, but the best fry up I have had in Galway was in Cava, absolutely savage! (weekends only)

Definitely Trappers, very nice staff too!:)

Yeah, during the day anyway. You can eat upstairs too.

What time do Trappers finish serving this breakfast? I'll have to take an early early lunch some day soon to sample it. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 566 ✭✭✭seriouslysweet

Frends are notorious for charging different amounts. One day a wrap is €6.50, the next €8.50, for students it is awful confusing!

Lynch's Cafe, Shop Street is my favourite. They sell Colleran's pudding which is very tasty and it is not expensive.

    Yummmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Hey some mates coming to Galway for a weekend and they are wondering about a few thinks, since I used to be a student and now dont drink I haven't got much experience of recovery fry ups in town. Any recommendations?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,516 ✭✭✭Hoki

The Trappers Inn on the Tuam road makes a beast of a fry up , you can also get omelettes in there with whatever you want inside them - my personal fav being bacon, sausage & tomato!

In town itself i liked Finnegans (across the road from City Tribune) , huge portions in there so you wouldnt leave hungry anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,034 ✭✭✭Ficheall

    Homeplate.

Wouldnt go near Finnegans or its sister restaurant Riordans, serving up manky 'Irish' food to tourists. Had bad food in both on more than one occasion and will never be back.
Kellys on Bridge St is good, Revive Cafe on Eyre St do great breakfast options from Scrambled Egg with Bacon and cheese, Frys, Breakfast Ciabatta etc.

Everyone, please feel free to mention good places but keep the negative comments for some other site.
