Check out the NY Megathread here:http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055092585

I stayed in the Radio City Apartments Hotel and you won't find a more central location. www.radiocityapartments.com/

I stayed in the Grand Hyatt just beside Grand Central Station January last year and it worked out around that price. The room was a bit dated but comfortable, the hotel lobby is impressive and the location is brilliant. Was within walking distance of the Empire State, Broadway and Central Park (me and the missus do walk a lot so some of those are long walking distances!).

January is a different kettle of fish to December though, hotel prices are at their cheapest Jan-Mar and at they're most expensive in December. I think a 4* for €200 will be very difficult. I think your best bet would be to try the bidding websites Hotwire and Priceline closer to the time. Don't be afraid to go for a 3* though, a 3* in New York should be pretty decent and you spend feck all time in your room anyway!

I think Travelzoo have some great deals, sign up to their mailing list, but again, it's probably too early to see the deals on that site.

January is the cheapest month there is to go to NY. I've been three times in Jan because it's so cheap. We got an amazing room for 130$/night plus tax. If you compare January and December prices you will see a big difference.

Check out the Affinia Dumont. We stayed there last March. Great location and a top class spot.

Stayed at the Helmsley Hotel (the one on 42nd street not the one on central park) and its a great location- central to most tourist spots(walking distance) and a lovely hotel-should meet your requirements. Think its 4 star and not cheap but should be within your budget. Reviews and advice on it on www.booking.com.
