    Hi all

I bought 3 year old ewe in sales today with 2 week old ewe lambs at foot and when i got them home this eve i noticed that the ewe has temporary tags in both ears and i know that she will lose them shortly on our land

My question is what sort of tags should i put in if she loses them and what about the lambs they have no tags so can i tag them seeing as my tag is not the farm of origin

I hate the confusion over sheep tags

    thanks............Metalwood

in this case you are required to put one of your own permanent tags in the ear bearing the the tag of the vendor (ie tag no. on the dispatch document)

I am saying this because the ewe may have had more than 2 movements from farm of birth

since the ewe was born before 01/01/2010 you are not required to use an electronic tag

note all details in your flock register

tag the lambs when you are selling them with your own tag in the left ear or if keeping for breeding tag with electronic tags at 7 months of age

    DISCLAIMER

I am not sure if above is 100% correct but it is the method I use and I havn'e gone to prison yet:)

Snowman707 is on the ball. And tag them at 9 months with 'normal' tags if not to be used for breeding but still on farm but not sure if temp tags or permanent ones. Temp only for mart or slaughter i think
