Walking Washing Machine

I have a Belling washing machine that lately has been banging loudly & walking accross the floor during the spin cycle. I adjusted the legs & for a while all was ok until last week when it became noticably more violent than before & a raised area appeared on one side of the machine.
I had a look under the machine & could see that there is a long metal plate at the top of one of the suspension legs which connects it to the drum. This plate has snapped in two (one part attached to the suspension leg & the other still attached to the drum) leaving one side of the drum lower than the other. It also seems as if there is dried oil on the suspension leg.

My question to anyone with knowledge of washing machine workings is how serious a problem is this & a ball park cost if repairable.
The machine is 10 years old so owes me nothing at this stage but I'd like to have some sort of idea & cost in my head before calling out an engineer only for him to tell me - Nah mate it's fooked, buy a new one. That'll be €60 please.

Suspension leg is around €30/35 depending on model, add the call out charge and you have a rough idea. But has the broken metal rod damaged the outer tub ?? that would right it off.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the response. It's not a broken metal rod as such, more like a bracket or mounting plate & as far as I can tell it hasn't actually damaged or pierced the drum. I rang a repair guy & explained the problem & was told that I'd be better off getting a new machine considering it was 10 years old & the repair would likely be expensive.
