Good to see Twilight has a certain amount of pull in the Razzie noms.

EDIT: Warning.. the official site for the Razzies has pop-ups galore and a horrific amount of advertisements on each page.

It just goes to show we here on boards seem priviliged (in that we forged a mental block) that when nominating bad films for our awards we forgot some of the turkeys the Razzies have on display.

M Night Shyamalan will clean up!

I hope The Last Airbender gets every award bar the acting ones. While the acting was pretty terrible, I think that the actors where victims of a bad script and terrible direction, rather than being terrible actors in their own right.

That's a very limited pool of films, in fairness. Do they not make any effort to seek out truly awful movies?

I'm pretty sure there was worse movies than those listed, but I am glad to see Cher gets a mention for Burlesque... And as for the twilight saga, delighted that gets quiet a healthy nod too.

damn - i've actually seen one of those. Was hoping I would get through the list without having seen any, but Clash of the Titans spoiled it for me. Oh well.

I just love how Rob Schneider gets nominated every year without fail. :D

who do you think will accept their Razzie in person?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,081 ✭✭✭ziedth

Stallone for the expenadables is a bit odd IMHO, much worse films then that this year.

Having not seen Sex in the City 2 even from the Ad i think it'll do well :)

I agree, the Razzie choices are always a bit... predictable at this point. Obviously aiming for high profile, but none of those films are hilariously bad like the cream of the crop of worst films are: the likes of the Room or Plan Nine or Reefer Madness whose poor quality is on a different level.

Can't say I've heard of any films that bad from 2010, but for an award ceremony priding itself in celebrating the worst of the worst, surely they could track down the hidden gems? If no one draws attention to those pieces of **** dwelling outside the mainstream, how are we ever meant to find them for ****s and giggles? I know Sex and the City 2 is bad, don't need anyone to tell me that again.

I thought the razzies focussed on mainstream hollywood, and the more marketing a poor film does, the more bashing it gets

Nah, tell that to Bela Lugosi in Bride of the Monster:

I didn't mean that every bad actor is a victim of bad direction, just that in that particular film, with that horrible direction, no actor would come out looking good.

yes, it lost me at the sight of a guy with a perfectly shaved head in ancient greece, seemed really choppy as well you could tell it was heavily edited. and the original version of Calibos looked soooo much better

Oh, no I meant the opposite! I love that scene because Lugosi delivers the speech with such passion and commitment in spite of the fact that it's completely ridiculous. :)

I think their selection criteria is limited to films that got a mainstream cinema release. No one would pay attention to the Razzies if it was a bunch of Asylum films getting lambasted. It's really more about embarrasing celebrities than searching for the world's worst.

No one I hope. It was kind of cute when Tom Greene turned up and brought his own red carpet (bless him, tiz the only award he's likely to ever get). I can't stand to see 'proper' actors trying to boost their PR by being 'kooky' and ironic by attending the Razzies.

Weren't the Razzies originally an attempt to bring over-hyped, over-critically loved and overly-awarded but actually overly-crap films down to earth? Picking on actors from Meet the Little Fockers or Clash of the Titans are easy targets when they could focus on some of the award-baiting melodramatic crap out there that poses for good filmmaking.

Hmmm if that's the case I'd imagine the Oscar winning Crash might be a superb contender. Preachy BS if I ever saw it.

Freddy Got Fingered is possibly one of the greatest comedies ever made. I wonder if that director's cut will ever come out...

Absolutely. Lugosi is working there for Ed Wood - popularly the worst writer-director-actor ever to grace the silver screen. Mark, if you haven't seen it, Tim Burton's biography of Wood is amazing.

Ah, but what greater writer could come up with a line like "This swamp is a monument to death. Snakes, alligators, quicksand, all bent on one thing: destruction."

I don't think it's fair to call Ed Wood one of the worst directors, he may have made badly written, poorly acted and cheap films but he put more heart into one of his productions than many more celebrated films ever did. I would much rather rewatch Plan 9 for the hundredth time than the last Indiana Jones, at least Wood tried to make a good film.

That reminds me of a line in The Matrix when the sentinel machines are described as "killing machines designed for one thing: search and destroy."

I agree for the most part - it's what I was trying to convey with "popularly the worst". In the same way that Plan 9 From Outer Space is a very popular answer for worst film ever (particularly among critics), but is just too earnest and kitsch and inadvertently funny to really be the worst.

"You still don't get it, do you!? He'll find her! That's what he does! It's all he does! You can't stop him! He'll wade through you, reach down her throat, and pull her ****ing heart out!!"
That's Kyle Reese in The Terminator. Lines like that are two a penny.
