Landcruiser Passenger Airbag Deactivation

Does anyone know if it's possible to deactivate the passenger airbag in a 2003 Landcruiser (new shape)?

Is it possible to fit a resistor, remove a fuse or otherwise allow me to fit a rear facing child seat?
I'm aware of, and not concerned with, the legal implications. :D

Ill ask the question in the moring and see what can be done.

You could see if there is a fuse for the LH SRS system, or the other option may be disconnect the airbag squib.

Cheers man, I'll have a look at the fuses in the meantime.

Also, if a fuse is removed rather than inserting a dummy resistor (or whatever), will the system register a fault in the SRS system and stop all airbags from firing or would it only disable the affected airbag?

It would register a fault and none of the bags would fire.

The old lady had a special seat fitted to her car a few years ago for my aunt who was in a wheel chair. There was a plug in unit available then to disable the passenger side pre-tensioners and side air bags.

Have you tried asking the Toyota agent?

I haven't asked Toyota yet, in case the official answer is a blanket "no" for liability reasons. I thought I'd do my homework first :).

The manual seems to show a global SRS fuse, and disabling the whole system isn't ideal. I'm sure there's a work around. Maybe I need to talk to a company that does disabled adaptations?

I know a Ford dealer disabled a passenger airbag in a Focus van last year for me. Exact same reasons as you Chris.

If Ford can do it, Toyota can. I'd imagine you'd have to sign a disclaimer stating you know the consequences, and possibly get a letter from your insurance company stating they will still cover you. That's what I had to go through.
