Hi , I am in cork and a little while ago was looking at the sky, as it a clear night. while looking south i found Orion , and just below to the left there was a very bright twinkling. star (dont laugh) , almost in line with orions belt. So i checked google which seemed to suggest Sirius . Any info appreciated thanks

If you have a pair of binoculars look at the bright area just below Orians belt you should be able to see the Orion nebula (get stellarium if you need a map)

And yes it is cool

Could be either the Chinese belt or the Lantern Nebula
