    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/government_in_ireland/elections_and_referenda/national_elections/election_expenses.html
    The 1997 Act sets down limits so that candidates are only allowed to spend a certain amount on elections. The maximum that a candidate can spend on a Dáil election is

    * €45,000 per candidate in a five-seat constituency
    * €37,650 per candidate in a four-seat constituency
    * €30,150 per candidate in a three-seat constituency

    The 1997 Act also created a system of reimbursement of election expenses. If a candidate received at least one-quarter of the quota of votes for the constituency in which he or she ran, he or she may apply for a reimbursement of up to €8,700 of his or her election expenses.

    ...

    No candidate can receive an individual donation greater than 2,539.48 euro for election expenses. No political party can receive an individual donation greater than 6,348.69 euro for election expenses.

    In the UK there is a suggestion that only registered voters be able to donate to make political donations. So no companies , no unions, no farming organisations , no vested interests etc.

    What are the chances of something like that here ?

    Wonder how many FF's won't make it to the €8,700 ??

    When should we expect our poles to be littered with election posters. Hope you are all ready with your spray paint cans for FF and the cabbages posters.

    Those figures from 1997?

    Maybe they should take a brain check and realise our country doesnt have the same money we did to fund these idiots knocking on our doors with their false promises.

    Cant wait for the first canvaser to come knocking. Gonna laugh and slam the door in their face.

    I hope they call to my West Cork holiday home as I'll be up in Dublin pretending I'm down in Cork.

    perhaps a name and shame campaign for any elected official that was in a party and is now going it alone , so voters can be reminded of who they were with

    Did he remember to install steel-shutters, motion detectors, IEDs and rpg-proof windows?
