well does anyone know if these engines are any good?? one guy reckons there the same engine as the focus 1.6 td, is this corect? was it just the tax bracket issue for moving from 1.9 to 1.6??

Your friend is talking through his rear. The VW 1.6 TDi has nothing in common with the Focus 1.6 TDCi.

The 1.6 TDi has replaced the 1.9 TDi which was around since the dawn of time and was not compliant with new EU emmission regulations. The 1.6 has roughly the same power as the old 1.9 but has a more balanced delivery of it. The 1.6 is also more refined, smoother, quieter and has lower emmissions. Way to early to know though it is reliable yet.
